Principles to Graphic Design

Typography

  • Never use more than three fonts. This is styles and sizes. Two is preferable.

  • Some font websites for download and use.

  • Use pinterest to assist with font pairings

Alignment

  • Leave a 'safe area' around the borders. (No important image information or text towards the edges).

  • Use centering text sparingly.

Colour

  • Colour has a huge impact on the mood of the design. A predominantly red colour usually represents strong emotions - love, anger, passion - while blue can make the design feel calm, cool, peaceful or somber. Colour emphasises important information and leads the eye through a design.
